Eight schools from across the country will compete in Debating Matters 2010', a competition funded by the British Council and the Institute of Ideas, UK. The competition which will be spread over a three-day residential event will also give students the opportunity to interact with personalities like writer Chetan Bhagat, British linguist David Graddol and poet Meena Kandasamy.
Lecture on surrogacy
As part of its 30th year celebrations, the Karna Prayag Trust, an NGO which works with destitute children and childless couples, in the areas of child welfare and adoption for the last 30 years, held its first endowment oration on Wednesday. The lecture was delivered by Dr Justice A R Lakshmanan. A former judge of the Supreme Court and the former Chairman of the Law Commission of India, he spoke on the rights and obligations of parties towards surrogacy and the laws both written and unwritten that surround the issue. The film Adhiyasa Punnagi' by Latha Menon was also screened at the venue.
