CHENNAI: Two days after a Panchayat president was hacked to death by a gang, police on Saturday arrested six accused.
Investigations revealed that the gang murdered Venkatesan due to previous enmity. The six have been identified as M Mohammed Yacob, 35, R Praveen Kumar, 24, V Manimaran, 25, M Mohammed Riyaz, 32, M Mohammed Imran, 21 and M Riyazuddin, 25. Mohammed Sadaam and Moharaj are still absconding, police said. The six men were arrested from hideouts in Thiruvallur district.
Earlier, police arrested four people - M Mohammed Sadaam Hussain, 24, M Mohammed Anifa, 23, Mohammed Basha, 21 and V Mohanraj - in the case.
With the arrest of six people on Saturday, the total number of people held in the case increased to ten. The arrested were produced before a court that remanded them in judicial custody.
