Mother-son duo held for extortion in Vepery

Chennai: A mother-son duo has been arrested by the Vepery police on charges of extorting gold and diamond jewellery worth 4 crores from a businessman's wife, by threatening to upload her personal videos on social media. Another son of the arrested woman is absconding.Police said Sangeetha, 53, moved into an apartment in Vepery with her sons Dileep, 34, and Ankit, 31, as tenants in 2025. She befriended the victim and introduced her to her sons. After getting intimate with her, the sons started demanding money and valuables. As she refused to pay more, they threatened her. She then informed her husband about the threat. On their complaint, Vepery all women police arrested Sangeetha and Ankit. There whereabouts of Dileep are not known yet. Inquiries revealed that the family had been jailed twice before and that several women have lodged complaints against Dileep. TNN
