More water is being released from Mettur dam ahead of Aadi Perukku

SALEM: The public works department has increased the quantum of

water

being released from the Stanley reservoir (

Mettur

dam) -- from 500 cusecs to 2,500 cusecs -- ahead of Aadi Perukku or Aadi 18, which will be celebrated on Thursday.

Aadi Perukku, a Hindu religious festival, will be celebrated on riverbanks on the 18th of the Tamil month Aadi.

Considering the requests of people, the State government ordered the PWD officials to release more water from the dam.

The inflow into the reservoir increased to 7,271 cusecs, and water level reached 35 feet on Tuesday morning.
