Fake NCC camp: HC lambasts police

Chennai: Citing Krishnagiri district legal services authority report on a fake NCC camp organised by a private school in Krishnagiri, Madras high court said the state police failed to conduct a proper probe into the incident."We are not sure whether the probe is going in the right path," said the first bench of Acting Chief Justice D Krishnakumar and Justice P B Balaji, after perusing the detailed report filed by the authority. The report revealed that the prime accused, Sivaraman, who died by suicide within a few days after his arrest, lured the students to attend the fake camp by promising that extra marks would be given to them in NEET and JEE exams if they attended the camp. The report added that the accused displayed an air pistol and a rifle, to the students and threatened to cut their fingers if they disclosed his actions in the camp to others.During hearing, the court censured the police for failing to arrest the person who introduced Sivaraman to the school management. It then directed the authorities to unravel the mystery behind Sivaraman'sdeath and his father. Representing the state, advocate-general PS Raman submitted that so far, three FIRs registered and 18 were arrested.
