Leaders criticize Vijay’s remarks at TVK general council

Chennai: Leaders of various political parties, particularly the allies of the ruling DMK, came down sharply on TVK chief Vijay for his speech at the special general council meeting criticising chief minister M K Stalin. BJP too reacted sharply for Vijay's declaration that the 2026 polls would be a fight between TVK and DMK. However, AIADMK maintained a stoic silence over the Vijay's remark.

State BJP president Nainar Nagenthran who was defending Vijay in the afternmath of Karur stampede, took a dig at his statement positioning TVK as the alternative for DMK. "The BJP is part of a national alliance with 300 MPs. AIADMk general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami had served as a CM of the state. In such a situation, it is strange for someone to say that they are the alternative immediately after launching a party,'' he said.


CPM's state secretary P Shanmugham said only the Dravidian majors continued to wield influence in Tamil Nadu's political landscape. "It was like watching a comedy channel on TV," he said, referring to Vijay's remark that the electoral battle would be primarily between the DMK and TVK in the 2026 polls.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko said Vijay's speech showed his hatred and bitterness for chief minister MK Stalin. "He has set out in a paper boat to cross the sea and builds castles in the air. His dreams will disappear like a mirage," he said and urged him to maintain political decency.

Senior AIADMK leader and former minister Sellur Raju refrained from commenting when asked to respond to Vijay's statement,positioning TVK as the alternative for DMK, while ignoring AIADMK.
