CHENNAI: The Chennai police late on Wednesday night arrested a
Madras high court lawyer for attacking a woman police sub-inspector of Anna Square police station last October.
The lawyer, C Vijay Raj, a resident of Mannadi, went to the Anna Square police station and assaulted the woman sub-inspector Serena. Vijay Raj appeared to represent his client, who was picked up by police when he was with a woman friend at the Anna Mausoleum on Kamarajar Salai. The security guard of the mausoleum saw the couple cosying up and informed the police station. Sub-inspector Serena went to the place and picked them up for questioning. Vijay Raj who represented for his client picked up quarrel with Serena and attacked her inside the police station, the FIR said.
Anna Square police have registered a case under Sections 147 (unlawful assembly), 451 (trespass in order to commit an offence), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter the public servant from her duty), 225 (striction or obstruction of lawful apprehension of another person), 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 4 of
Tamil Nadu Women Harassment Prevention Act.
The case was lying dormant for more than nine months. On Wednesday, police arrested Vijay Raj from his residence in Mannadi. He was later remanded in judicial custody.
