CHENNAI: A law student committed suicide at her house in Thiruvottiyur on Friday. Her boyfriend Thennavan, who was preparing for the UPSC examinations, died of seizures on May 3 when visiting her. Police said she had been distressed since then and may have taken the extreme step because of Thennavan's sudden death.
Police said N Ashwini, 22, was a student in her second year of college.
She was in a relationship with Thennavan, 24, who had completed his automobile engineering and was preparing for the civil services examination at a private coaching centre in Anna Nagar.
Preliminary inquiries with her family revealed that Ashwini avoided talking to neighbours and friends after Thennavan's death. Her family sent her to their relative's house in Sathangadu in hopes that it would cheer her up. On Friday, Ashwini refused to go out with her family and remained at home. When they returned, the family found her hanging from the ceiling of one of their bedrooms.
The Sathangadu police recovered the body and sent it to Government Stanley Hospital, said a police officer.
