CHENNAI: A former principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya in
Ashok Nagar
was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment after he was found guilty under the the prevention of corruption act by a special
CBI court.

, in 2018 had demanded a bribe of 1.5 lakh from a vegetable vendor for admission of his son in Class 1 in the school under the RTE (Right to Education) act. The court also slapped a penalty of 1 lakh on the principal.
According to the prosecution,
Rajendran, the vegetable vendor, was not willing to pay the bribe amount. Subsequently, he approached the CBI who laid a trap. On April 9, the principal was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of 1lakh. CBI had filed the final report before the court next year.
