Kerala floods: Air India plans to operate special flights to Cochin Naval base

CHENNAI: Air India is planning to operate special flights to Cochin Naval base as Cochin airport is closed due to floods.


The airline said in a statement that "Air India is trying to find a way to fly in and out of Cochin where the severely flooded civil airport is closed till August 26 leaving thousands of passengers stranded."

AI’s subsidiary Alliance Air will on Saturday operate a “proving flight” on an ATR to Cochin’s naval base. The aircraft will have a team of DGCA and flight safety officials. If found safe, Alliance Air plans to mount more flights to Cochin’s defence airbase and also pave the way for other airlines with ATR planes to operate flights, said the airline.
