CHENNAI: Amid speculations of BJP reaching out to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for alliance talks, actor-turned-politician Vijay was summoned again by the Central Bureau of Investigation to appear at its New Delhi office on Tuesday (March 10) in connection with the Karur stampede probe, sources said.
The fresh summons came even as investigators earlier indicated that the second round of questioning could be the last interaction with Vijay in the case.
Vijay was first questioned by the agency in New Delhi on January 12, when he recorded his statement for more than 6 hours. He appeared again on January 19 for a second round of questioning.
During the second session, Vijay told investigators that inadequate police deployment during his Karur rally led to the chaos that resulted in the stampede, sources familiar with the probe said. He also submitted documents, including the rally application, and was questioned on whether police guidelines were followed.
The stampede during Vijay’s rally in Karur on September 27, 2025, left 41 people dead.
The CBI took over the probe from a special investigation team following a Supreme Court order on a petition filed by TVK seeking an independent inquiry.
