Hemanth Rao

has been selected for the Gollapudi Srinivas National Award 2016 for his debut film “Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu”. Every year, the award, is given to a debutant director.

It is the 20th edition of the award.

The film was selected from 20 nominations from across the country in many languages, including Tamil, Malayalam, Manipuri, Assamese, Bengali and Kannada. Last year, the award was given to Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan for his English film ‘The Lens’.

The award, comprising a cash prize of Rs 1,50,000, will be presented at a function in Chennai on August 12.

Established in 1998, the awards perpetuate the memory of Gollapudi Srinivas, a young

director

who tragically died in an accident during the shoot of his maiden venture in 1992. The award is announced annually on March 17 and presented on August 12, the day Srinivas died.

“Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu” revolves around the story of Venkob Rao, a middle-aged man suffering from Alzheimer's who goes missing. His son Shiva, who is worried by his father's disappearance, begins a search with a female doctor. The story unfolds when Venkob gets entangled with a killer who has committed a murder.
