Indian Coast Guard rescues 10 people stranded at offshore jetty

CHENNAI: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Thursday rescued 10 people, including six fishermen, stranded at an offshore jetty amid adverse weather conditions. The offshore jetty of a private company is located off Chitrapettai village in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu.

Six fishermen from Thai Kal Thoni Thurai village were stranded at the jetty after their boats sank in the sea. Four jetty workers were also stranded. All were in urgent need of evacuation.

Tamil Nadu state authorities sought assistance from the ICG. Responding immediately, the ICG Regional Headquarters (East) deployed an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) from the ICG Air Station in Chennai. All the stranded 10 people were evacuated to Chitrapettai.
