CHENNAI: Wondering as to how for a simple protest on IIT-Madras campus, students were injured in attacks, Madras high court has agreed to hear the issue if petitions were filed.
On the first day of the court when it reopened after a month-long summer recess, advocate NGR Prasad mentioned the Tuesday attack on students who organised beef fest on IIT-M campus and sought court's intervention.

To this, the first bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar observed that for a simple protest a student suffered injuries.
It then asked the advocate to file petition for the bench to hear, and told government pleader MK Subramanian to look into the issue of the student who suffered injuries because he organised the protest.
"Look into the issue in the meanwhile," it told the government advocate, after permitting filing of a petition for urgent hearing.
On Tuesday, an IIT research scholarship Sooraj suffered injuries in the eye, while another student Manish Kumar Singh suffered fractured in his right hand in an alteration over beef fest on campus. Kotturpuram police have registered cases against both.
