Vikraman on charges of rape and cheating following a complaint from a Chennai-based woman activist and lawyer living in London.
In a complaint on July 25, the woman, who is pursuing a doctoral research degree in London, demanded action against Vikraman, alleging intellectual, emotional, sexual, and financial exploitation.
The woman, who belongs to the Adi Dravida community, said that in the guise of a romantic relationship Vikraman cheated her of several lakh rupees.
As police did not take action, she approached the court, which ordered police to register an FIR. He was booked under provisions of the IT Act, the SC/ST Act, criminal intimidation and the TN Prohibition of Woman Harassment Act.
Sharing a series of their old photographs and screenshots of their WhatsApp conversations, she told police she knew Vikraman since 2013, when he participated in an event in which she was a guest. He proposed to her in 2020, promising a wonderful future together, but cheated her of several lakhs. When she confronted his political, intellectual, and financial exploitation and opportunism, he behaved in a casteist and abusive manner.
Vikraman, who responded to her complaint, said that their relationship was strictly platonic.
She has also lodged a complaint with the VCK, after which the party has constituted a committee to look into the allegation. The party is yet to come out with a detailed report.
