Gold, gadgets worth Rs 1.16 crore seized from passengers at Chennai airport

CHENNAI: Customs officials at Chennai international airport on Friday seized 2.55 kg of

gold

and electronic items worth Rs 1.16 crore. Three

passengers

were arrested.

Based on intelligence, five passengers who arrived from

Dubai

and

Sharjah

in various flights were intercepted at the exit gate. On personal search, 10 bundles of gold in paste form were found concealed in their rectums. On extraction, five gold ingots weighing 2.55 kg worth Rs 1.12 crore were recovered.

Electronic goods worth Rs 4.7 lakh were also seized from the passengers.
