CHENNAI: Gangster Binu Pappachan surrendered before the Ambattur police here on Tuesday, a week after police nabbed 75 history-sheeters who attended his birthday celebration.
On Tuesday night (Feb 6), Binu, a murder accused who faces more than 28 cases, was celebrating his 50th birthday at Malayambakkam on the outskirts of Chennai. Police raided the party and nabbed 75 of his friends.
A total of 45 two-wheelers, seven cars, 15 weapons and cellphones were seized. However, Binu and two gangsters identified as Kanagu and Vicky alias Vignesh managed to flee.
Eight special teams were formed to Binu and others. Binu, who had been hiding in various places, surrendered before the police on Tuesday morning. However, Kanagu and Vicky were still absconding, police said.
A native of Thrissur in Kerala, Binu began his life at a tea stall in Chennai and later entered the world of crimes.
‘I am not big rowdy’Binu Pappachan appears in a footage which was shared on social media sites and instant messaging apps around the time his surrendered before the police. He says, “I am not a big rowdy, as hyped by police personnel and media.”
“I am Binu. I was born and brought up in Choolaimedu. I am aged 50 and a diabetic. I was involved in several cases due to bad friends. I was detained in prison on several occasions. I wanted to reform myself and went underground after I came out on bail. I had stayed in Karur for the past three years. None knew about my hiding place except my brother, ” he says
“All trouble happened after my brother requested me to come to Chennai on my 50th birthday. I came to Chennai. He surprised me as he had made preparations for a big birthday party near Mangadu. I came to know that he had invited many of my old partners in crime and budding rowdies, as they all wanted to wish me on my birthday. I was worried and asked my brother why he had organised a party since that would invite unwanted trouble. My brother told me that I could leave the venue after cutting the cake. He gave me a sword and asked me to cut the cake. I did so."
" When I was about to leave, police personnel surrounded the area. I saw policemen on all sides. I managed to leave the place. As the Chennai police kept on chasing me continuously, I cannot stay in hiding. That is the reason why I appeared in person before the investigation officers. Please forgive me and pardon me from all my sins. I am not a big rowdy,” Binu says.
