COIMBATORE: Food safety officials have summoned the management of a private restaurant in Coimbatore to attend an inquiry after live worms were found in a burger sold at the outlet. A group of young men visited a KFC outlet on the Avinashi Road on Sunday to buy burgers. While eating, they found live worms in one of the burgers and recorded a video of the same. When one of them immediately lodged a complaint with the restaurant staffers, they were provided with a replacement burger. One of them shared the video on social media platforms, which went viral. He pointed out the health risks posed by such food items and urged the authorities concerned to investigate and take appropriate action. Following this, food safety department officials visited the restaurant on Monday to inspect the food items available there. They conducted inspections in all areas of the restaurant, including the kitchen and the customer seating area. An inquiry was conducted with the restaurant’s management and staff regarding the viral video showing worms in the burger. A senior official from the department stated that the restaurant management had denied the occurrence of such an incident. Consequently, the management has been ordered to appear for an inquiry on Tuesday, bringing with them the footage recorded by the restaurant’s surveillance cameras on the day of the incident. When TOI contacted, a member of the management team at the restaurant said, "We cannot comment on anything now."
