First patient tests positive in Krishnagiri after 35 days of quarantine

KRISHNAGIRI: The

Krishnagiri district

got its first Covid-19 patient on Saturday. A 43-year-old man, who was working in a private company in Mysuru, tested positive in

Hosur

on Saturday. “Though, he was tested positive in our district, we have sent his blood and throat swab test to Chennai lab for second opinion and also for confirmation,” S Prabhakar, Krishnagiri district collector told TOI.

The person came to

Alasanatham

near Hosur on March 21 after few of his colleagues tested positive. “He had been under home quarantine for nearly 35 days since then,” the collector said.

After completing 35 days of home quarantine, the person came voluntarily to the Covid-19 testing lab, that was functioning at the veterinary institute in Hosur for blood and throat swab testing on Friday.

The personnel at the testing lab confirmed positive to that patient and they have immediately alerted the district collector.

According to the health department officials, corona virus incubation period was just 14 days. “We were wondering, how this person has been tested positive even after 35 days,” a senior doctor from the district health department said, adding that, this was the first case tested positive after 35 days of home quarantine in India.

The health officials have sent the blood and throat swabs to the

King Institute

of preventive medicine and research in Guindy in Chennai for second opinion. “We will declare about this case only after getting results from King institute,” the collector added.

Meanwhile, the health officials have also collected blood and swab samples from the person’s family members for test.
