Tiruvannamalai in
Tamil Nadu on Wednesday sentenced a 63-year-old ex-serviceman to life
imprisonment
for raping a minor girl.
M Krishnamurthy of Tiruvannamalai lured his neighbour’s eight-year-old daughter to his house and raped her on July 18, 2010. The ex-serviceman was 56 years old then.
The victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the all-woman police station. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under Section 376 (
rape) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him.
On hearing the case, district principle judge G Mahizhenthi, who is holding the full additional charge of the mahila court, pronounced Krishnamurthy guilty of raping the minor girl and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The judge slapped a fine of Rs 3,000 on him and stated that he should undergo three years rigorous imprisonment if he failed to pay the penalty.
The judge passed the verdict based on the medical report and the statement of the victim.
