Driver arrested for sexually harassing woman in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police on Tuesday arrested a 47-year-old man for sexually harassing a

woman

.

The accused has been identified as A Rajadurai, who is a

driver

with Irugur town panchayat. He has been working in the civic body for the past 23 years.

The victim works as a sanitary worker in the panchayat.

A police official said had joined the civic body 20 days ago. She was given the duty of monitoring people to ensure that they don’t step out of their houses without wearing masks.

The accused had sexually harassed the victim during working hours, the official added.

The issue received attention only after the victim had consumed cow dung powder unable to deal with the harassment, which had been going on for a week. She was admitted to a government hospital and her health condition was currently stable, the official stated.

Based on her complaint, the Singanallur police arrested Rajadurai after registering a case against him.

He was remanded in judicial custody.
