CHENNAI:
DMK spokesman Tamilan Prasanna’s wife
Nadhiya, 35, ended her life by hanging at her home in Kodungaiyur in Chennai on Monday night. She took the extreme step due to family issues, according to police.
Prasanna, a lawyer, is the state joint secretary of the public relations wing of the DMK.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Nadhiya had wanted her husband to celebrate her birthday – that falls on Tuesday -- in a grand way. But Prasanna was against celebrating the birthday in a grand way due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation. So he told her that they would celebrate her birthday in a grand way next year. A quarrel broke out between the couple on this issue on Monday night.
Nadhiya went to her bedroom and locked it from inside. As her bedroom remained locked till late in the morning, Prasanna knocked on the door. He broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling, police said quoting Prasanna.
Prasanna took his wife to Government Stanley Hospital, where the doctors examined and confirmed her death.
Based on a complaint filed by Nadhiya’s father Ravi, the Kodungaiyur police registered a case and were questioning Prasanna.
