CHENNAI: The

Dam Fest

, a platform to engage individuals and communities for spreading the sustainability message through awareness, will be held at

DakshinaChitra

from March 30 and 31.


“The two-day urbanite human collective will address a very important aspect about our urban living which is threatening the very existence of our planet,” said a release from DakshinaChitra.

The fourth edition of Dam is supporting ten pillars of sustainability, namely crafts, arts, education, culture, design, environment, social responsibility, food, heritage and Empowerment. The fest will include creative workshops, art exhibitions, conscious fashion show, art installations, sustainable music, yummy and healthy food, responsible practices and roundtable discussions on Sustainability.

This fest “green living” includes workshops on ‘mud bench building’, ‘yoga,’ ‘mindfulness’, ‘terracotta jewellery’, ‘upcycling art and illustration’, ‘Litho and recycling’, ‘T-shirt painting’, ‘cotton bag painting’, ‘ceramics’, ‘composting waste’, ‘sustainable music didjeridoo’ and ‘body movement-dance.’ Besides the hands on workshops, there will be multiple activities like screening of curated “educational movies on sustainability”, screening of notable environmentalist Shekar Dattari’s work followed by a roundtable on sustainable education and notable sustainable works in and around city. The museum will also have an open-air art exhibition from various young artists and beautiful installations too.

The event is not complete without food and music. The food court will have a range of healthy foods and delicious home baking eateries. There will be hands-on activities for the whole day – to include paper-mache painting, stone carving, shell craft, pottery workshop and live wall painting. The sessions on workshops and roundtable (from 9:30am to 4pm) will be followed by music by Didgeridoo artist and Parai artist from Coimbatore, from 5 pm to 8:00 pm.

dance competition on March 30, followed a conscious fashion show curated by NIFT students on March 31.

DAM Fest is an independent, non-profit event organised by 'Dammers' and coordinated by Inklink Trust , a charitable trust which works on art education and social sustainability and DakshinaChitra Heritage museum. The event majorly focuses on learning and education through design, art and music.
