It is a very sad state of affairs in Chennai because of heavy rains, it has flooded Chennai. The State Government and Municipal Corporation have done their work. There is a lot of inconvenience to the public...I have demanded in the Parliament that we should discuss in the Lok Sabha, the cyclone's effect in Chennai...The Government of India and the ministers must reply what action the Centre has taken to help the states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Most low-lying areas in Tirupati and Nellore were flooded, and people were evacuated from the water-logged areas. Authorities have also declared a holiday for schools in many parts of the state. The wind, which was gaining in speed with each passing hour, uprooted trees and caused damage to standing crops in the south coastal districts.

Cyclone Michaung pummelled Chennai and its neighbouring districts non-stop, dumping 400 to 500mm of rain since Sunday morning, flooding homes and destroying cars and bikes across the coastal metropolis. In 2015, when the 'Chennai deluge' drowned the city, it had received 330mm of rain.

The government is striving to bring normalcy at war-footing to other areas too like Tambaram and Avadi corporations, municipalities of Poonamallee and Mangadu. I have never seen rains of this intensity in my life. Generally, the city sees around 550mm rain in three months. But in the last two days, the city saw more than 500mm rain. If it doesn't rain any more, we hope to drain water from the city sooner and bring normalcy.
