CHENNAI: Film producer and distributor 'Kalaipuli' S Thanu now faces the prospect of being sent to judicial custody after a city

court

here ordered his

arrest

in a cheating case.

C David, 55, from Nagercoil, the owner of a film theatre, said he had entered into an agreement with the producer that he had to be compensated if he suffered loss in screening the 2009 film Thirumagan, starring Suriya . As he incurred loss, Thanu had to pay 2 lakh to the theatre owner. As the producer did not pay the amount, David moved the principal subordinate court, Nagerkoil seeking directions to recover the amount with interest.

In 2013, the court ruled in David's favour, following which he filed a transit and execution petition before the assistant city civil court to transfer the case and recover the amount. "Thanu has spent several crore on making the movie Kabali and he has the sufficient resources for repaying David," said Elangovan, David's counsel.

On Tuesday, judge K Ganesan ordered his arrest for not following court orders.
