TTV Dhinakaran wins RK Nagar bypoll with a huge margin

Of the total, 1,76,890 counted, Dhinakaran got 89,013 votes to win the Radhakrishnan Nagar (RK Nagar) constituency that fell vacant after the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Stay tuned with TOI for live updates.

There will be a total of 19 rounds of counting today. There are total 14 tables at the counting centre.

Counting of votes for the recently held Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar (RK Nagar) bypoll will begin at 8 am on Sunday. Polling was conducted in 258 booths of RK Nagar on December 21. The contest is primarily between the ruling AIADMK's candidate E Madhusudhanan, sidelined AIADMK leader and independent candidate T T V Dhinakaran and the opposition DMK's candidate N Maruthu Ganesh.

Votes from 14 EVMs will be counted in one round. There will be 18 full rounds and one final round where only six EVMs will be counted.

The exit poll, which saw participation of 1,071 voters, predicts that Dhinakaran would bag 37% votes. The survey also said that Madhusudhanan and Maruthuganesh are expected to get around 26% and 18% votes.
