Citing medical report, TN urges court to cancel bail of YouTuber

Chennai: Citing the report filed by the court-appointed medical board of Rajiv Gandhi Govt General Hospital (RGGGH), the Tamil Nadu govt on Monday sought Madras high court to cancel the interim bail granted to YouTuber ‘Savukku' Shankar on medical grounds.As per the report, Shankar had type-2 diabetes, systemic hypertension, and coronary artery disease (with prior stent placement). However, the board concluded that his condition was stable and did not require immediate cardiac intervention, and that he only required continuation of medications, lifestyle modification, and not specialised treatment, said K Settu, inspector of police, Saidapet police.
From the conclusion of the report, it is evident that the accused does not require any immediate specialised medical treatment as of now, which is contrary to the averments made by his mother in the habeas corpus plea seeking interim bail for her son. "There is no imminent risk of a fatal cardiac event. The claims made by the accused to have continuous specialised medical treatment were a ruse to escape from the clutches of the law. He misled this court and misused the liberty granted to him by this court," Settu added.A division bench of Justice P Velmurugan and Justice M Jothiraman adjourned the case to Feb 18 for final hearing.
