VILLUPURAM: A 66-year-old woman died, and four others suffered injuries when a car they were travelling in plunged into a rainwater-filled pit near Tindivanam in Villupuram district of
Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Siluvaimary of Ashok Nagar in Chennai.
Police said Siluvaimary and her four relatives were returning to Chennai after attending the last rites of her brother, Savarimuthu, in a village near Ulundurpet.
Her relative Arul Devakumar was driving the car. When he tried to park the car at Salavathi junction, he lost control of the vehicle. The car plunged into a water-filled pit, which was dug for road expansion.
Passersby rescued all the five and rushed them to Tindivanam Govt General Hospital, where Siluvaimary was declared dead.
