CHENNAI: T Charan Kumar, one of the two accused in the

car accident in Chennai which claimed the life of an autorickshaw driver, has moved the Madras high court seeking bail.

The car was driven by professional car racer Vikas Anand. Both Anand and Charan were said to be drunk when the accident happened in the early hours of September 19.

A session court here had declined to grant bail to the duo.

In his petition in the high court, Charan said it was Anand who had caused the accident. It was wrong on the part of the police to claim that he had asked Anand not to stop the car after the accident.

He had not committed any offence, nor abetted Anand, the petition said. “The prosecution had made the averments without any materials,” said the plea adding “the eye-witnesses and electronic record of the hotel from where the car was driven by Anand would clearly prove that he was attempting to blame his fault on Charan to escape from clutches of law. Anand had also approached the sessions court seeking bail with false averments and unclean hands,” said the petition.
