Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on Friday facilitated the rapid transportation of donor lungs and a heart from Meenambakkam to AG-DMS
metro station for a transplant procedure in the city.
A release stated that the organ consignment team arrived from Madurai by air ambulance and reached Meenambakkam metro station. With support from CMRL officials and station staff, the team boarded a dedicated non-stop metro train that crossed seven stations in nine minutes before reaching AG-DMS.

From there, the organs were rushed by ambulance to Apollo Hospital on Greams Road, where the transplant was scheduled. CMRL officials said the movement was enabled under the amended Metro Railways (Carriage and Ticket) Rules, 2023, and reiterated the metro's commitment to supporting emergency medical needs.
