CHENNAI: A gym instructor was arrested on charges of rape and cheating after making a false promise of marriage to a woman.
According to the woman’s complaint, she was in contact with gym instructor Vigneshwar since 2014, when she was in Class XII. At that time, he proposed to her, and the two continued their relationship while in college too. The couple travelled to Mamallapuram, where Vigneshwar secretly took intimate photographs of them. Once these photographs came to light, both were suspended from college for ten days.
After completing their studies, the woman bagged a job in a private firm, while Vigneshwar opened his own gym.
However, he began avoiding her, claiming that he had settled in life and needed a better partner. He also demanded 80 sovereigns of gold as a condition for marriage. When the woman insisted on marrying him, Vigneshwar threatened to expose their intimate pictures.
The woman filed a complaint at the Poonamallee all-women police station.
Based on her complaint, the police charged him with criminal intimidation, rape, cheating, criminal breach of trust, and violations under the SC/ST Act.
