CHENNAI: On May 26, Vintage Heritage, a
film club
that exclusively screens old movies, will pay homage to legendary
singer T M Soundararajan
.
The progamme, ‘Bhakthi Konndaaduvom’ will present melodious devotional songs sung by Soundararajan for various composers, for the movies that hit the screens in the 1950s.
“We are organising the programme as Soundararajan’s death anniversary falls on May 25,” says K Sundar, one of the founders of the Club.
Launched on June 20, 1992, with a video show of select
film songs
, the club has conducted about 300 programmes so far. The members of the club meet once a month for a special screening and discussion.
“By his intonation of voice and enunciation, TMS gave a new dimension in singing devotional songs with utmost bhava and bhakthi,” says Sundar.
“On May 26, we will be screening around 25 to 28 songs. As they are screened, I will also be giving a narration, talking about the musical aspects of the songs, the raga, the way he sings it, etc,” he adds.
The programme will be held at Vivekananda Hall, P S High School, Mylapore, from 6.15pm onwards on May 26.
