COIMBATORE: M Karunakaran took charge as the collector of Coimbatore district on Monday. He succeeds Dr P Umanath, who is moving to as joint secretary, finance department.
Karunakaran has previously worked in Coimbatore as district revenue officer.
Talking to TOI, Karunakaran said his immediate priority will be the implementation of various welfare and development schemes announced by the new state government.
He also promised speedy redress of grievances of those who approaching him.
"I would see to it that all government schemes reach the beneficiaries. In order to achieve that aim, I need the co-operation of the employees and the general public," he said. A transparent administration is the need of the hour to make this possible and people are requested to come forward to mitigate their problems and issues, he added.

When quizzed about the developmental priorities, he said that all the schemes will be implemented as and when required without any delay.
Karunakaran was joint managing director, Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers Federation Ltd, before moving to Coimbatore. A native of Madurai, Karunakaran was special officer of a sugar mill in Tiruthani, deputy commissioner in Coimbatore Corporation and deputy revenue officer of Coimbatore district in his previous assignments.
