Burglary at Chennai house while family was on vacation

CHENNAI: Miscreants broke into a house at Venkatapuram near Ambatur here and made away with 100 sovereigns of gold jewellery besides silver and diamonds worth Rs 7 lakh while the family was away.
The burglary happened at the house of Chandran, 50, an assistant manager at the Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi.
Police said Chandran, his wife Sumathi, 45, and their children were in Madurai when the burglary happened.
On Wednesday, neighbours found the front door broke open and alerted Chandran. Chandran flew down from Madurai on Wednesday night and lodged a police complaint with the Ambatur police.
The police registered a case and were investigating.
