Borewell on storm drain removed, corpn lodges complaint
Chennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation on Saturday removed a borewell set up on a storm water drain in Saidapet, and its pipe laid through the SWD going to the ground. The corporation also filed a police complaint against the house owner who did it.The issue was spotted by health minister Ma Subramanian during an inspection this week, and informed the commissioner about it. GCC commissioner Dr J Radhakrishnan said the borewell had damaged the storm water drain and that the owner had also set up a footpath on the drain. “The keys of vehicles parked on the drain was seized, and a complaint was lodged by zonal officials. I personally inspected the place,” said Dr Radhakrishnan. Officials said severe action would be taken on any encroachments such as bunk stalls or vehicles parked on the drains. Residents, meanwhile, complained that the corporation has taken up road space to build drains in many areas. “The corporation should try to avoid using the roads to build drains, and try to take up pavement spaces,” said a resident of KK Nagar.
