Chennai: Twenty-two years after a former branch manager cheated Bank of India of 15 lakh, a special court here has sentenced the official and his accomplice to three years RI along with a fine of 10 lakh.
According to the prosecution, the anti-corruption branch of CBI, Chennai had registered a case in 1997 against R Krishnamurthy, branch manager of Bank of India, Purasawalkam branch, T K Subramanian, P V SeIvaraman, K V S Prakash, M E Sampath, M Ramiah and K Loganathan on the basis of a complaint that in 1993 the accused entered into a criminal conspiracy to cheat the bank.
Krishnamurthy, by abusing his official position, sanctioned an export credit and packing credit loan of 15 lakh to Subramanian, who was introduced to the bank by SeIvaraman. K Venkatasamy sentenced Krishnamurthy and Sampath. Prakash, however, was acquitted.
