CHENNAI: A new combined court complex in Alandur, likely to open on Wednesday, is expected to come as a relief for thousands of litigants in the suburbs, according to court officials. “Work on the twostorey- complex is almost complete and we are giving finishing touches,” a senior public works department (PWD) official told TOI on Tuesday. The Rs 8.6-crore complex off GST Road has all basic facilities expected in a lower court.

However, it is still to get water connection from the Alandur municipalityand drainage connection from St Thomas Mount-cum-Pallavaram cantonment board. “Efforts are on to get the connections soon,” said Alandur municipality chairman A Duraivelu. Spread over 14,655 square feet, the complex has separate court rooms for two principal district munsif judges, a district magistrate and an evening court. It also has separate chambers for judges, a property room to store seized items, separate rooms for copyist, clerks, a bank with an ATM and a media centre with fax and internet facilities. The entire complex is airconditioned and has lift. “A fast track court will also be opened soon,” Alandur bar association president S Saravanan told TOI. There are also separate waiting halls for men and women litigants, which on an average can accommodate over 200 people at a time.
