AIADMK General Body Meeting Updates: O Panneerselvam, three others expelled from party; Section 144 imposed in AIADMK office area

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam or ADMK, an offshoot of Periyar’s Dravidian movement, was founded by M G Ramachandran in 1972 and nurtured by J Jayalalithaa. The party r uled Tamil Nadu for three decades in its five-decade existence and scripted history by winning consecutive terms. It weathered storms after the passing of MGR and Jayalalithaa, but now it is witnessing another power struggle involving Jayalalithaa’s commandants O Panneerselvam and Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Traffic police warned of slow traffic movement in and around the Vanagaram area. In an official release, police said, “Traffic is likely to be slow between Poonamalee and Koyambedu between 6 am and 4 pm. Motorists are requested to take note and plan their travel accordingly.” During the AIADMK meeting held on July 23, the city witnessed huge traffic jam as there was no proper parking space for the vehicles .

While uncertainty prevailed over the conduct of the AIADMK’s special general council on July 11, it is going to be one of the most secured and hi-tech political meetings in recent times, if it is held as proposed. Participants have been given ID cards with RFIDs (Radio Frequency Identification) to prevent non-members from participating and causing trouble.
