CHENNAI: The Madras high court has refused to stay the summons issued by Economic Offences Wing (EOW) against film producer, actor and BJP functionary R K Suresh in the Rs 2,438-crore Aarudhra Gold Trading scam.
When the plea came up for hearing on Friday, Justice G Chandrasekharan granted a week's time for the EOW to respond to Suresh's petition.
According to the petitioner, EOW has sent the summon based on a statement given by actor Russo who is among the suspects in the scam. "I have met Russo only in connection with film production and I have no role in any manner in the scam," he said.
He further added that since he is out of the country to take care of his family he could not immediately return to India and appear before the EOW. Suresh who is also the vice president of BJP's OBC Wing alleged that he had been falsely implicated in the case due to political rivalry and that he has no connection with the company Aarudhra or the scam. Recording the submissions, the court adjourned the hearing to April 28.
