CHENNAI: "An Indian Day”, directed by S Sukhdev, has no commentary but the stunning shots of the 55-minute-long documentary portray the contrasts, contradictions and diversity of India.
Sukhdev, who died in 1979, was one of the avant-garde filmmakers India ever had. So the 6th Chennai International documentary and short film festival 2018 will begin with a retrospective to Sukhdev and his woks on April 15.
At least 50 films will be screened in the four-day festival to be held at Goethe Institute and Max Mueller Bhavan in the city from April 15 to 19. The retrospective sessions include Sanjay Maharishi, filmmaker (New Delhi), filmmaker in focus : Bernd Lutzeler (Germany), Shazia Khan (Kashmir).
The “PARADIGM NON SHIFT” will have films of veterans like Robert Bresson, Mani Kaul, Amit Dutta curated and presented by Amrit Gangar, writer-historian. There will be a “Films from Tamil Nadu” session to screen some of the most experimental films released in Tamil so far.
