$500-million smelter for TN
This is the perfect Diwali gift for the industrially backward Thoothukudi district. Sterlite Industries Ltd. on Thursday announced a Rs 2,300 cr ($500mn) investment at its existing plant there.
According to regulatory filings, Sterlite announced a brownfield copper smelter expansion project, together with an 160 MW captive power plant. The project is expected to be commissioned by mid- calendar year 2011.
