12 flights to and fro Chennai cancelled

CHENNAI: As many as 12 flights—five to arrive at Chennai and seven to depart from here to different destinations—were cancelled on Wednesday citing operational reasons and technical glitches. A flight from Delhi to Chennai was diverted to Bengaluru due to bad weather in Chennai.

Flights from Chennai to Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Shivamogga, Madurai, Bagdogra and Kolkata were cancelled. Since these flights, except those from Shivamogga and Bagdogra, were to return to Chennai from the respective destinations, they too were cancelled.

An IndiGo flight to Jaffna, Sri Lanka, was cancelled due to bad weather in Sri Lanka. The flight, which was to return to Chennai from Sri Lanka, was also cancelled.

An IndiGo flight from Delhi, which was scheduled to land in Chennai around 10am, was diverted to Bengaluru since it was raining in Chennai. The flight finally reached Chennai around 12.47pm.

Meanwhile, an Air India flight bound for Singapore was delayed for nearly seven hours as a technical snag was detected during precautionary checks. An Air India spokesperson said a valve had to be replaced. The flight would depart at 6.15pm, against the original departure time of 11.55am.
