Jind was considered former deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal’s stronghold and his great grandson Dushyant Chautala has managed to maintain the political family’s hold in the district. A JJP supporter said this was akin to voters giving their stamp of approval on transfer of Devi Lal’s legacy to Dushyant, who has led JJP to victory after breaking away from the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).

Dushyant led by example too with marking a win over former Union minister Birender Singh’s wife and sitting MLA Prem Lata Singh from Uchana Kalan by a margin of 47,353 votes. His performance has also put a question mark over political legacy of famous peasant leader Chhotu Ram.

Another JJP candidate Ramniwas Surjakhera won from Narwana constituency defeating BJP’s Santosh Danoda by a margin of 30,692 votes. Amarjit Dhanda of JJP stunned two-time MLA Parminder Singh Dhull by taking a lead of 24,193 votes. Dhull, who had won twice from Julana as the INLD candidate, was contesting as BJP nominee this time.

At the same time, BJP’s Krishan Lal Middha again managed to retain the Jind constituency seat, defeating JJP’s Mahabir Gupta. Middha won by a margin of 12,476 votes. In Safidon, Congress’s Subhash Gangoli emerged as the winner defeating BJP’s Bachan Singh Arya by 3,658 votes.
