Warring warns against pushing Punjab towards bankruptcy

Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Wednesday warned against the state being pushed towards bankruptcy by the Aam Aadmi Party dispensation and creating huge financial liabilities for the next govt, which would be formed in early 2027.Reacting to the reported proposals of the state govt with huge financial implications without any credible source, Warring warned that the AAP govt, which knew it was in the last year of its term and stood no chance of returning, was leaving Punjab in a financial mess for its successor govt.
The PCC chief noted that the AAP was trying to repeat its earlier formula of making promises without any intention. He said the way the AAP govt promised to pay Rs 1,000 to every woman in the state, but did not pay until now, it was now proposing other such schemes with huge financial liabilities.The state does not have enough money even to pay the interest on pending loans, so where will the govt get money to finance its new schemes, which are clearly aimed at the forthcoming assembly elections in the state, the Ludhiana MP asked.Warring asked the govt to spell out the source of funds before announcing any such scheme. "The state's debt has already crossed Rs 4 lakh crore, and we do not want the state to be drowned any further, and we will not allow that," he warned."The AAP apparently believes it has nothing to lose at this stage since it is resigned to its fate, having realised it stood no chance of returning," the Congress leader added.MSID:: 128784894 413 |
