Warring taunts Jakhar over fertiliser subsidy
Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday took a jibe at Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar for "thanking" Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fertiliser subsidy, as if he had done "something revolutionary or for the first time".Warring said the fertiliser subsidy had been the official policy of all govts for a long time, and PM Modi was not the first to grant it, as Jakhar seemed to suggest. He reminded the BJP leader that the PM also asked the farmers to avoid using fertilisers. "What is the point in claiming to provide subsidies on fertilisers, when at the same time you tell them not to use these?" he asked. The PCC president said that no amount of subsidy would be enough to cover other input costs for farmers, be it diesel, labour, or rising inflation. "These things will offset all the benefits of the so-called subsidy, which the govt had to provide in any case to the farmers," said Warring,"Moreover, the govt was not doing any special favour to the farmers, as they were feeding the nation," he added.
