Tight security in Haryana after terror alert for Yoga day

CHANDIGARH: In view of terror alerts issued by intelligence agencies ahead of the International Yoga Day on Wednesday in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Gujarat, the Haryana police have beefed up

security

across all the districts. Haryana DGP BS Sandhu said necessary instructions were issued to all police officers in 22 districts to keep a strict vigil. He added that the police department would be on its toes to ensure that the International Yoga Day on Wednesday remained peaceful.

Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar would be the chief guest at a district-level function in Karnal, and minister of state for goods, civil supplies, and consumer affairs, Karan Dev Kamboj, would also be present on the occasion. On the third International Yoga Day, all cabinet ministers, ministers of state, chief parliamentary secretaries, and MLAs would be chief guests in district-level functions.

At the same time, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) members have also planned a one-hour protest across the state in at least two dozen places on different highways on Yoga Day. Raising their demands of debt waiver and implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report, farmers would be holding protests from 9am to 10am on Wednesday. The DGP said the police would ensure that commuters are not harassed due to the farmers’ protest.
