Chandigarh: The Indian Air Force's elite Surya Kiran team turned the skies over Sukhna Lake into a tricolour canvas on Saturday, concluding a two-day masterclass in precision flying.

From synchronized rolls to high-speed crossings, thousands of spectators—on the ground and on rooftops—watched as the "Ambassadors of the IAF" delivered a high-octane recruitment drive for the next generation of aviators. The display, coordinated by the 12 Wing Air Base, saw aircraft leave vibrant trails of saffron, white, and green, creating a patriotic backdrop for an audience of students, families, and high-ranking officials.




Precision in the Clouds

The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team executed a series of high-difficulty maneuvers that highlighted the rigorous discipline of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Key highlights of the performance included:

Synchronized Patterns: Multiple aircraft flying in tight, well-coordinated formations.

Dynamic Separations: Smooth breaks followed by steep vertical climbs.

Technical Mastery: A sequence of loops and rolls that demonstrated exceptional teamwork and pilot confidence.

The Chandigarh showcase follows a successful two-day engagement in Sujanpur, Himachal Pradesh, earlier this year.

A Rare Gathering of Leadership

The event was attended by a prominent delegation of regional leaders for a second consecutive day. Gulab Chand Kataria, governor of Punjab and administrator of Chandigarh, commended the pilots for a performance that "reflected the professionalism and excellence of the IAF."

Operational Logistics

To ensure safety, the Chandigarh administration closed Sukhna Lake to vehicular traffic and general visitors for the duration of the event. While the surge of spectators led to brief traffic congestion as the show concluded, the Chandigarh Police and civil administration reported that the situation was resolved without major gridlock.

The Rescue Before the Roar

Moments before the jets took flight, a different aerial drama unfolded. A Civil Defence team led by Sanjiv Kohli rescued an injured eagle from the lake after it had been attacked by a flock of birds. Following a medical examination by veterinary staff, the bird was successfully released back into the forest area.

Beyond the spectacle, the air show served as a powerful tool for military outreach. By bringing elite aerobatics to a civilian landmark, the IAF aims to inspire the nation's youth toward careers in defense and national service.
