Sukhbir moves HC seeking quashing of FIR

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday issued notice to the Punjab government on a plea filed by former deputy chief minister Punjab and senior leader of SAD Sukhbir Singh Badal seeking quashing of an FIR registered against him in Beas, Amritsar.
The FIR was registered against Badal junior on July 1, 2021, for obstruction of mining operations of a company in Amritsar district. Sukhbir had alleged that the company was carrying out illegal mining along the Beas. The case was registered on complaint of the company. While seeking the quashing of FIR, Sukhbir has submitted that the case is a example of malicious investigation, the object whereof was to cover up misdeed of persons enjoying government patronage. TNN
