Sarkaghat murder: Accused sent to police remand till April 16

Shimla: A local court in Sarkaghat on Tuesday sent Vikas Patiyal, accused of killing 19-year-old college student Sia Guleria, to police custody till April 16.The incident took place in the Gopalpur area of the Sarkaghat sub-division on Monday. The accused allegedly slit the victim's throat with a sharp-edged weapon while she was on her way to college.Patiyal is a resident of Nain village and is reportedly a drug addict. The victim also hailed from Nain village.Police officials said the investigation was ongoing, with efforts focused on establishing the exact motive behind the crime. Call detail records and forensic reports are still awaited. Following the court's order on Tuesday, the accused was taken to Mandi hospital for medical examination, they informed.Meanwhile, the victim was cremated at her native village on Tuesday morning.Public works minister Vikramaditya Singh met the girl's family on Tuesday and assured justice.
