Safidon factory fire: Kin of victims refuse compensation, demand jobs
Jind: Tension prevailed in Safidon town of Jind district after families of the deceased in the recent factory fire tragedy refused to accept compensation cheques offered by the administration. The families have instead demanded govt jobs for one member of each affected household. They said that issue will be raised before chief minister Nayab Singh Saini during his visit scheduled on April 4 in Safidon town. The district administration has been trying to resolve the issue before his visit, but deceased's family members refused to accept the cheques and asked the officials to arrange their meeting with CM. According to reports, the incident took place nearly 24 days ago, when a fire broke out at a factory, resulting in the death of 12 women. Since then, grieving families have been seeking stronger support from the govt. Deputy commissioner Mohammad Imran Raza visited Safidon rest house to distribute compensation cheques to the victims' families. However, the families declined to accept the cheques, expressing dissatisfaction and anger over what they termed as inadequate relief measures.
The affected families stated that financial compensation alone cannot compensate for their loss. They emphasised the need for long-term support, demanding permanent govt jobs for one member in each family to ensure livelihood security.Family members also raised concerns about the handling of the incident and alleged negligence. They have been demanding strict action against those responsible for the tragedy. Despite repeated efforts by the administration to persuade them, the families stood firm on their demands and returned without accepting the compensation. The administration has assured that their demands will be conveyed to higher authorities, while investigations into the incident are ongoing. It is pertinent to mention that several women received burn injuries and 12 lost their lives during treatment. The incident led to widespread outrage among the locals, who are demanding strict action against the culprits.‘MLA ignored tragic incident'As per sources, locals are annoyed with the behaviour of local BJP MLA Ramkumar Gautam in this matter.
